About
Optimal Movement Physio was founded by Physiotherapist Laura Whiteoak, with the desire to revive the delivery of top quality physiotherapy with a difference. Based in Exeter, Devon, Laura conducts sessions in person and over the internet.
Her diverse background and experience in helping individuals with a range of musculoskeletal conditions - from the recreational movement lover through to the athlete, has led her to fully appreciate how pain and injury can effect not just the body, but overall wellbeing.
The feelings of disappointment and fear that accompany pain and injury will be challenged with a positive perspective by providing an opportunity to learn about your body and appreciate movement in a new light.
Laura works in a holistic, person-centric manner to the rehabilitation journey. Treating the person rather than the injury is fundamental along with fully understanding the individual; goals, fears and beliefs. Providing each person with a clear plan, empowering them to return to what they love fitter, stronger and more resilient.
Individuals will be equipped with the correct knowledge and tools to continue their pathway far beyond the treatment room.
About Laura
Hi I'm Laura. I'm a teacher turned physiotherapist, graduating from the University of Plymouth. I'm also a strength and conditioning coach; a skill which sets me aside in my field.
My diverse background including an extensive 20+ years in the fitness industry delivering a range of group exercise programmes, a teaching career in primary schools and a keen dancer and competitor from a young age equips me with a unique skill set; blending the technical aptitude to guide your rehab journey from injury through to full fitness and performance in a communicative, relatable way without the jargon!
Alongside my physiotherapy degree, I'm qualified in sports massage and acupuncture which are additional strings to my bow. I can therefore offer 'a little bit of everything' depending on the specifications of the person in front of me. Navigating injuries can be mentally and emotional taxing, especially for regular movement lovers. This is where education on what you CAN do, providing support and a sense of nurture through the process is vital.
I aim to instil confidence in movement and set you up for physical and emotional success while overcoming your injury to get you back to doing what you love. Keeping it simple, nailing the basics and building good foundations are key!
